About the Program

Our MissionPark Place School picture

Park Place School is located in the Park Place section of Norfolk, Virginia. Our mission is to provide at-risk elementary school students from low-income backgrounds the basic reading, spelling and math skills necessary for academic success, within a Judeo-Christian environment. Students, ages eight to twelve who have difficulty learning and who read below grade level are candidates for admission.

Why Park Place School

Psycho-educational assessments of Park Place School students indicate that many do not meet eligibility criteria for special education in the public system. Yet, they continue to fall further and further behind their classmates in the critical areas of reading, writing and math. Currently, ten of our sixteen students have been retained once and two have been retained twice. In addition, many have an undiagnosed learning disability that requires special teaching methods.

Our Goal is For Your Child to Graduate High School

The goal of Park Place School is to sufficiently strengthen the academic skills of at-risk students, to enable them to return to public school in the sixth grade armed with the tools to succeed, and to graduate from high school. Our methods of educational instruction are based upon the intervention of NILD. Intervention equips students to be independent thinkers motivated to learn. Hope and success are restored.

Computer Aided Advanced Learning System

The Park Place School model utilize the computer aided A+ Advanced Learning System daily for Social Studies and Science. This software addresses the academic Standards of Learning (SOL) for the state of Virginia. Park Place School does not require SOL testing, however we prepare our curriculum to align with the Standards of Learning (SOL).
